FBI arrests nuclear engineer and wife on charges of espionage

Monday, October 11, 2021

In the United States on Saturday, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) arrested a couple in West Virginia. Court documents released Sunday allege they tried to sell classified data to a foreign nation.

The Maryland couple, former U.S. Navy nuclear engineer Jonathan Toebbe and his wife Diana Toebbe, were both arrested and charged with violating the Atomic Energy Act. Mr. Toebbe worked on naval nuclear reactors and acoustic quieting. Ms. Toebbe is a teacher at the private Key School in their neighborhood in Annapolis, now on indefinite suspension according to the school.

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland said in regards to the case, “The complaint charges a plot to transmit information relating to the design of our nuclear submarines to a foreign nation.” The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) alleges the couple tried to sell this information to a foreign agent who was actually an FBI undercover agent.

Documents filed in federal court allege Mr. Toebbe arranged to sell restricted information to a foreign power identified only as “COUNTRY1” over several months via encrypted messages, and that he arranged “drops” of these data on SD cards in various locations in exchange for payments in cryptocurrency.

At the first of the drops in West Virginia, the DOJ alleges Mr. Toebbe hid an SD card in a peanut butter sandwich while Ms. Toebbe acted as a lookout. At the second of these in eastern Virginia, the DOJ charges that an SD card was placed in a chewing gum package. Federal officers arrested the couple at the third drop site, in West Virginia, on Saturday.

Both Mr. and Ms. Toebbe are set to appear in federal court tomorrow in Martinsburg, West Virginia.

Meeting Girl At College Parties

Meeting girl at college parties

by

Tandy Rosalia

For the first few years of college, most social events are held at parties because many of the people attending are under the age of 21. A lot of guys I’ve talked to have asked me “Since I’m not going to bars a lot, how do I meet girls at parties?”

It’s actually freakishly easy, and I can say without a doubt if you fit within social norms (IE have all your limbs attached, not deformed, speak the language at the party) You can easily be meeting countless girls. One of the biggest misconceptions I hear is that “girls just don’t like me” and “other guys have something I don’t.” This is dead wrong. The key to creating attraction and meeting/hooking up with a girl at a party can come down to three things. 1. Having a flirty vibe 2. Being a source of fun at the party (basically how you interact with everyone) 3. Knowing when to pull the trigger I’m going to break down these more 1. Having a flirty vibe If you simply sit in a corner not having fun then come out of no where and start blatantly hitting on a girl at a party it’s obviously creepy and also very high risk. If the girl rejects your old creeper man approach your going to look stupid. This is what a lot of guys resort to doing however if they really want a girl. It rarely works unless your a celebrity! There’s a much better way of pinging girls for attraction and it will start to work on every girl in the room. What I’m talking about is being a natural flirt…with everyone. This means talking to all the girls in the room, smiling, hugging them, playfully touching them (thumb war, tickling, picking them up and swinging them around). This does not mean blatantly hitting on every girl and being overly sexual Now, I’m not saying go up to one girl and do all of these in this order RIGHT NOW!. Being flirty naturally with all girls will make it more arousing and fun to talk to you. Girls love to flirt, and when your flirting with all the girls at the party you can bet your slippers that the other girls are gonna notice you having fun with other girls besides them. Once your doing this enough, your probably gonna start seeing girls trying to meet YOU instead. 2. Being a source of fun at a party This is probably the most important part. Girls like guys, girls like to flirt, but girls LOVE to have fun. If your not having a great time at a party its going to be really hard to get girls to notice you. When you go to parties you’ll notice a few people that are the life of the party. If they disappeared, people would suddenly notice and miss them. You have to be one of these people, this way girls will welcome the chance to talk to you and mooch off the fun you bring into their lives. If you aren’t a social person your going to have to push yourself to meet everyone at the party and be a social water hose instead of a social sponge. Going crazy at a party, talking loudly, having interesting stories that people want to hear will make you in demand socially. By doing this girls will literally start hovering around you to get in on the fun. An easy way to get in the habit of being this type of person is by meeting everyone in the room, being easily excitable, and amusing yourself instead of looking to others to make your night fun. 3. Knowing when and how to pull the trigger This is where so many guys mess up because they don’t understand how or are afraid to pull the trigger. When your at a party there is a few things that can REALLY help you with girls. If you getting a good vibe from a girl, pay attention for places where you can go talk alone. (patio, empty hallway, bed room or just an area away from the party) Why should you do this? Girls are not going to open up sexually or physically if they are surrounded by 15 of their closest judgmental friends. When you get a chance to hang out as a pair, you will notice the girl can finally relax and be herself with you. At this point you can really start to make a connection and even start hooking up a bit (OH BOY!) Don’t be afraid to get close to a girl you like and DEFINITELY don’t just sit there and chat about the weather. This will get the girl frustrated. If she has wandered off somewhere with you alone, shes there for one thing…YOU! Those are just some quick tips. If you want countless more article on girls in college or learn some of the best ways to be ABSOLUTELY LETHAL with women check out college flirt Check out my latest article on how to text a girl you met the night before. Miami of Ohio and Boston College advance to 2010 NCAA men’s ice hockey Frozen Four

Tuesday, March 30, 2010

Obviously it was an unbelievable feeling

Miami of Ohio beat the Michigan Wolverines 3–2 at the finals of the NCAA Midwest regional ice hockey tournament Sunday night at the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Miami sophomore forward Alden Hirschfeld scored at 1:54 into the second overtime when his shot from the top of the left face off circle deflected into the goal off the skate of the Michigan goaltender Shawn Hunwick.

Pat Cannone led the scoring with two power play goals for Miami during regulation. It looked as though Michigan had won the game in the first overtime when Michigan’s forward Kevin Lynch appeared to score. Unfortunately for Michigan the referee blew the whistle calling a penalty just before the puck went in the net. The Miami goaltender Connor Knapp who made 53 saves in the game was named the most outstanding player of the midwest regional tournament.

This was the first multiple overtime game for the Miami of Ohio RedHawks in their 23 years. Miami will be going to the Frozen Four for the second straight year.

It was great to see all those hats on the ice

The Boston College Eagles advanced to the Frozen Four in a shoot out with the Yale Bulldogs. BC defeated Yale 9–7 last night at the finals of the NorthEast regionals in front of 6,054 fans at the DCU Center in Worcester, Massachusetts.

BC forward Cam Atkinson had a hat trick and an assist. Mark Arcobello of Yale also had a hat trick. In an attempt to find a way to stop the Eagles scoring Yale played three different goalies during the game. The sixteen total goals is a NCAA record for a regional tournament game. The previous record was thirteen.

This will be the 22nd time that Boston College has made it to the Frozen Four, it is the ninth for coach Jerry York and their third trip in the past four seasons. BC will face Miami of Ohio in the semifinals on April 8 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan.

Apple releases iPhone SDK, announces upcoming update

Thursday, March 6, 2008

During a media event held at its Cupertino headquarters, Apple released the long awaited iPhones Software Development Kit (SDK) and the associated iTunes “App Store” and iPhone Developer Program. The SDK will allow third party software developers to create applications for the iPhone and then distribute them on the iTunes Apps Stores. Any members of the iPhone Developer Program can add applications to the store for free; the program costs $99 (USD) to join. Developers will be able to set the price of the applications or release them for free. All applications will have to be approved by Apple before being allowed on the store. Some of the disallowed categories are”porn”, excessive bandwidth users and anything malicious or illegal. VoIP applications would be allowed over Wi-Fi only. Enterprises can setup private pages on the store to distribute internal applications.

At the event several third party developers that had been given early access to the SDK demonstrated their applications. Among the applications demonstrated were EA‘s Spore, AOL‘s AIM instant messenger and a client for epocrates, a drug reference service.

The company also announced the iPhone 2.0 update that was released as a closed beta for developers and is scheduled for public release in June. In the new version Apple has been focusing on enterprise features in an attempt to compete with rivals like RIM‘s BlackBerry and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. The update adds support for ActiveSync, which Apple has licensed from rival Microsoft, WPA2 and virtual private network support. The update will also be available to iPod Touch users for what Steve Jobs described as “a nominal charge”, as Apple have done in the past with the previous iPod Touch and MacBook Wi-Fi updates.

U.S. Congress passes CAFTA with 2 vote House margin

Thursday, July 28, 2005

The U.S. House of Representatives approved the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) early morning Thursday, with a narrow vote of 217 in favor, 215 against. Voting was held open for an hour, 45 minutes past the House’s 15-minute voting rule as the President along with other supporters lobbied into the night.

The vote was so close, if one House member changed a “Yea” vote to a “Nay” vote, CAFTA would have failed in a 216-216 tie.

In tallying the votes, 25 Republicans, mostly from Midwest Corn Belt and Rust Belt states and the Southeast United States’s textile industrial belt, broke party line to vote against the measure. Two Republicans were present, but refused to vote.

The Democrats presented a more united front. All but 15 Democrats present voted against the treaty. Independent House members, who usually vote with the Democrats also voted against the measure.

Supporters of the measure include President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, U.S. Trade Representative Rob Portman and Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez. Opponents included most House Democrats.

The trade agreement already passed the Senate in June. President Bush has said he will sign it into law.

DR-CAFTA encompasses the following components:

 • Services: all public services are to be open to private investment.
 • Investment: governments promise to grant ironclad guarantees to foreign investment.
 • Government procurement: All government purchases must be open to transnational bids.
 • Market access: governments pledge to reduce and eventually to eliminate tariffs and other measures that protect domestic products.
 • Agriculture: duty-free import and elimination of subsidies]] on agricultural products.
 • Intellectual property rights: privatization of and monopoly over technological know-how.
 • Anti-dumping]] rules, subsidies and countervailing rights: governments commit to phase out protectionist barriers in all sectors.
 • Competition policy: the dismantling of national monopolies.
 • Dispute resolution: the right of transnationals to sue countries in private international courts.
 • Environmental protection: the enforcement of environmental laws and improvement of the environment.
 • Labor standards: the enforcement of the International Labour Organization’s core labor standards.
 • Transparency: the reduction of government corruption.
 • Test-Data Exclusivity for pharmaceutical corporations

Afghan women’s rights official shot dead

Tuesday, September 26, 2006

Safia Ahmed-jan, the director of the Afghan Ministry of Women’s Affairs for the Khandahar province and an advocate of women’s rights and a strong critic of the Taliban‘s repression of those rights, was shot dead by unidentified gunmen outside her home in Khandahar city in southern Afghanistan on Monday.

Safia Ama-jan, as she was known locally, is the first woman official to be targeted by the Taliban-led insurgency since it was deposed in 2001.

Safia Ahmed-jan taught at a girls’ school and was a high-school principal in Khandahar prior to the Taliban’s 1996 rise to power in Afghanistan. When the Taliban regime banned education for girls and forbade women from working outside the home, she ran an underground school for girls at her home, said her son Naqibullah, speaking to the Associated Press.

After the Taliban government was overthrown in 2001, Ahmed-jan became the provincial chief for women’s affairs in 2002, when the ministry was established and has since then held that position, worked for women’s rights and particularly, championed the cause of educating girls. Her secretary, Abdullah Khan told Associated Press that among her most successful projects were the vocational training schools she opened in Khandahar, where almost 1000 women were taught baking, tailoring and other skills.

Ahmed-jan has also been fiercely critical of the repression of women during the Taliban rule, in a region that has remained conservative and emerged as a hotbed of the Taliban’s insurgent activity. Her requests for personal security guards and transport went unheeded by the government, according to local media reports, though her nephew, Muhammad Asif told the New York Times that Ahmed-jan preferred to keep a low profile and used a taxi or public transport even though her office maintained cars and drivers.

Ahmed-jan was shot dead outside her house at about 7:30 a.m. local time (UTC+4:30) on Monday, as she left for work in a taxi. The gunmen are believed to have left scene on a motorcycle, and tyre marks have been found by the police, said the provincial governor Asadullah Khaled, who visited the scene of the attack.

Ahmed-jan was shot four times with a pistol, Muhammad Haidar, who worked in her office told the New York Times. Mohammad Nader, the head nurse at Khandahar’s main hospital where Ahmed-jan was taken to, confirmed to the Chicago Tribune that she was shot four times, including once in the head.

She was about 65 years old.

Accounts of the shooting are sketchy, several reports suggesting no one witnessed it. However, one man, identified as Allaudin told Al Jazeera that he saw two men on motorcycles waiting on the road, who attacked Ahmed-jan as she left her house.

A spokesman for the Khandahar governor, Daud Ahmadi confirmed the death and said that Ahmed-jan had died on the spot. An investigation into the attack has begun, and local officials have blamed the Taliban.

Hundreds of men and women, including the Governor Asadullah Khaled were present at Ahmed-jan’s funeral on Monday evening, which took place in Khandahar’s main Shia mosque.

The killing has been strongly condemned by the Afghan President Hamid Karzai as well as aid and human rights organisations in Afghanistan.

Aleem Siddique, a spokesman for the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), said that UNAMA was “appalled at the senseless murder” of a woman who was working to ensure a full and equal part in the future of Afghanistan for its women. He added, “We share the sentiment of the majority of Afghan people who are appalled at this killing.”

Abdul Quadar Noorzai, head of the Afghan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) for the Khandahar region told IRIN News that Ahmed-jan’s death will have a “serious impact on women’s activities in the south where women are already suffering from … the deteriorating security and conservative traditions,”.

Fariba Ahmedi, a woman MP from Khandahar who was present at Ahmed-jan’s funeral told the Associated Press, “The enemy of Afghanistan killed her, but they should know it will not derail women from the path we are on. We will continue on our way,”.

Sonja Bachmann, a U.N. political officer who knew Ahmed-jan well told the New York Times that Ahmed-jan “did a good job, she worked in a very low-key way and worked hard to raise awareness about women’s issues.”

Reuters and Associated Press received phone calls, claiming responsibility for the attacks on behalf of Mullah Sadullah, a regional Taliban commander, but no confirmation of the claim has been possible.

Another caller, who identified himself as Taliban commander Mullah Hayat Khan told Al Jazeera that Ahmed-jan was killed because she worked for the government.

The Taliban-led insurgency has stepped up attacks in recent months, killing hundreds of people this year.

Last week, 19 Afghans working for reconstruction projects in the region were killed after their bus was ambushed. The Governor of Paktia province, a close associate of President Karzai, was killed in a suicide bombing on September 10.

Attacks on schools have also been stepped up. According to the Afghan education ministry, there have been 158 attacks on schools this year, compared to 146 last year. The attacks on schools are believed to be due partly to the Taliban’s opposition to educating girls, as well as a way to undermine the Afghan government and it’s reconstruction efforts.

Twelve suspected militants and two Afghan police officers were reported killed on Monday in separate incidents which also left eight others and a U.S. soldier wounded.

“People are scared, of course,” Ahmad-jan’s co-worker Haidar said, “How can we feel secure when the head of our department is killed in front of her house?”

5 Safety Tips For Sending Money Online To India With Proper Merchant

Have you been planning to send money online to India? It can be a risky affair to send a huge amount from one country to another with the help of online remittance services. If you want the money to reach safely and timely to your friends or family in India, here are top 5 safety tips that you need to follow. These tips will not only ensure that the money is in safe hands but also help you avoid misuse of your personal information such as card number or bank details.

 1. The device you are using for online remittance needs to be safe. For instance, if you are using your laptop or your smart phone to make a transfer, make sure it is secure and malware-free. There are certain malware that can easily pull your personal details including bank account number and card details so; the device you use for logging in to your online account should be security scanned and safe from any malicious software.
 2. Always choose a reputed online remittance agency that has been into business for many years. With so many remittance websites out there, it can be difficult to choose the right one if you don’t do some research. You can ask for recommendations if you have friends or colleagues who send money through an online agency. A good agency will not only ensure quick and hassle-free transfer of money but also offer the best security system to keep your money safe till it doesn’t reach the beneficiary.
 3. Password protection is the third most important safety tip when you transfer money to India. You must have a strong password for accessing the online service for money transfer. This is because password theft has become common on the internet. Due to this theft, many people have compromised on their financial security. Always have different passwords for different accounts. For instance, don’t have the same password for your email account as well as bank account. Even if you lose one password, your other account will be safe for use later.
 4. It is important to save or print the receipts of the transfers you have made. This is because in case something goes wrong, you can use the reference number or other details from the transaction as a proof for payment. This will help resolve issues easily, if any. Reputed money transfer firms on the internet always email a receipt of the transfer to the money sender once the transaction is completed. You should always save these details for future use or reference.

It is strongly recommended to send money to people in India whom you know. In case there is someone you need to make a payment to, it would be advisable to send the money to your family and they can give it to that person, as and when required. Also, beware of spam emails in which people ask you to wire them money for a specific job or purpose.

Iranian International Master Dorsa Derakhshani discusses her chess career with Wikinews

Tuesday, April 14, 2020

In February 2017, the Iranian Chess Federation announced two teenage chess players, Dorsa Derakhshani and her younger brother Borna Derakhshani, were banned from representing the national team. The federation announced their decision although Dorsa Derakhshani had previously decided and informed the chess federation she did not wish to play for Iran.

Dorsa Derakhshani is currently 21 years old and holds the International Master (IM) as well as Woman Grand Master (WGM) titles. Her brother, Borna, plays for the English Federation and holds the FIDE Master title.

Dorsa Derakhshani was banned since she did not wear a hijab, an Islamic headscarf, while competing at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival in January 2017. Under the laws of Islamic Republic of Iran, hijab is a mandatory dress code. Her brother Borna Deraskhsani was banned for playing against Israeli Grand Master (GM) Alexander Huzman at the same tournament. Iran does not recognise the existence of Israel, and previously, Irani athletes have avoided playing against Israeli athletes.

Mehrdad Pahlavanzadeh, the president of the country’s chess federation, explained the decision to ban the players saying, “As a first step, these two will be denied entry to all tournaments taking place in Iran and in the name of Iran, they will no longer be allowed the opportunity to be present on the national team.” ((fa))Farsi language: ?????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???????? ?? ?? ????? ? ?? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ????? ??????? ? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??????? ????.
