The belief that stops them is that weight training makes the body turn stiffer. This myth is a silly lie because in reality, bodybuilding definitely does not make you stiffer. On the other hand, however, it adds an extended range of motion that allows much more flexibility in movement.The vast amount of other myths that exist to degrade female bodybuilding is perpetuated by the people who do not wish to develop their own bodies and honestly speaking, do not understand what they are talking about. UK PM’s speechwriter awaits sentence

An English lawyer has pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice. He faked a legal judgment and sent it to a father who was pleading in Taunton family court to be able to remain involved in his child’s upbringing. The lawyer, London barrister Bruce Hyman, now awaits his sentence. The judge indicated that he could receive a prison sentence. Bruce Hyman is well-known in media circles, having produced The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy on BBC Radio. He also produced a series with Clive Anderson, at Above the Title Productions, called Unreliable Evidence.

The father, a former City financier, had attended a series of court hearings in order to make suitable arrangements to see his child following an acrimonious divorce. Shortly before one of these hearings he received an email, ostensibly from a self-help group to which he belonged, which had attached a Court of Appeal case that appeared favourable to an application he had made for the judge to stand down from the case. The father, who was representing himself, duly showed the case to the judge. At this point, Bruce Hyman, the lawyer representing the former wife, claimed to the judge that the case was a forgery, which indeed it turned out to be.

After confirming that the self-help group had not sent him the email, the father then embarked on some detective work his own. The fraudulent email was traced via its header to a dial-up internet connection and a phone number belonging to a shop in London. The shop was able to recover CCTV footage which showed a man sending the email from an Apple laptop. The man turned out to be Bruce Hyman.

Sentencing of Hyman is due in Bristol Crown Court on the 19th of September.

Blizzard Entertainment’s victory over bnetd sealed in Appeals Court

Blizzard Entertainment has won a federal ruling in the U.S. Court of Appeals against the programmers of bnetd, a software package that emulates Blizzard’s Battle.net service. The court reaffirmed the original judgement, given in October, that the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and click-through EULA’s prohibited the reverse engineering of Blizzard’s software in order to improve their playability. This was the first real test of the DMCA’s applicability.

Bnetd, released under the GNU General Public License, was created to enable users to play multiplayer games, bypassing Blizzard’s freely accessible Battle.net servers, which have sometimes been unreliable or slow for gamers. The software also disabled the CD-Key check which is present in Battle.net to prevent users of pirated copies from being able to connect to Blizzard’s servers. Offers by bnetd developers to incorporate Blizzard’s CD-Check system were declined.

The CD-Check system itself has faced controversy, with some users complaining it borders on breaching privacy in the same way as adware and other malevolent software. Of the reasons for achieving high temperatures — and they can get up to a whopping 170 C (no typo, Centigrade!), making compost quickly is the most common. In nature as it gets hotter, chemical reactions happen more quickly and everything speeding up of course means compost is made more quickly — some claim in as little as two weeks. But no compost can really be made or ‘finished’ in two weeks because the second part of the composting process, called ‘curing’, does take time.

Curing happens once the heap has begun to cool and different decomposers start to get to work. Now the fungi and small insects begin their part of the alchemy and these guys, working at lower temperatures, take longer. If you put the two week’s old compost straight on the garden soil the same decomposers will appear because theres a job to be done, not ideal to have among some of your precious plants. Some plants will be fine with this — think woodland floor where this sort of decomposition goes on all the time but tender stems typical of a summer flower border might not be so robust.

Most people who want compost made quickly do so because they want more of it. No gardener can have enough compost but those really keen for it tend to be growing vegetables. Brassicas, for example, are known as ‘heavy feeders’.

Other reasons for wanting to get the pile steaming are to be certain it destroys any diseased material. That can be diseased plant matter, human germs such as from tissues and pathogens for instance from animal faeces. If temperatures of around 55C (130F) are achieved for three days or more not much will survive. Lower temperatures over a much longer period have the same effect.

Getting your compost to heat up isn’t the only factor to consider if you want to ensure germs of one kind or another are destroyed safely. A secure or closed system is important so that the pile isn’t raided by vermin or pets.

There is a great sense of achievement in inserting a compost thermometer (not essential but unless you’re touchy, feely …) and seeing the dial race around to temperatures more typical of your cooker than your garden. Dont get too good at it though. If temperatures climb above 60C the heat-loving bacteria start to die and the whole thing grinds to a halt until it cools down enough for them to thrive again.

So how can it be done? Compost heaps will naturally reach high temperatures given the right ingredients and assembly of them, enough space and appropriate ambient temperature. Generally 1m is considered the minimum size of a free standing heap for the middle to get hot. In smaller masses there is too much outside surface where heat can escape. Ambient temperature cant be controlled, ie in mid-winter Russia not many microbes are active and decomposition will grind to a halt, whereas by the equator decomposition happens all year round at a rapid rate. Bins with jackets or thermally insulated walls, the Thermo-bins’, are increasingly coming onto the market in an attempt to get composts hot in cooler climates.

The ingredients of the compost bin determine the air and moisture content, both of which have an impact on the internal temperatures that can be achieved. Compost bin inventers try and simulate the ideal conditions in terms of temperature, air and size but cant control, only advise, on what to put into it.

The Aerobin concentrates on introducing air as well as insulating the sides. This new Australian-designed bin achieved excellent results in tests carried out for WRAP (UK). It outperformed other bins in maintaining steadily higher temperatures and yet not driying out. Other themo-bins in the trial did dry out and thus the composting process slowed down. Microbes need moisture as well as air to perform at their peak and adding insulation to the sides of the bin appears not to be sufficient to increase the chemical and biological reactions occurring within.

Although temperatures of 55C were achieved the trials were carried out in the Australian summer and even then 55C would not pass the British Standards set for green waste compost. BSI PAS 100 insists that green waste compost reaches 65C for a minimum of 7 days. This results in a sanitized product that is tested for pathogens such as Escherichia coli and Salmonella as well as heavy metals. According to Joseph Jenkins in The Humanure Handbook it just takes longer at lower temperatures and at 55C the Aerobin isnt far behind.

Green Johanna has no patented lung for introducing air but is another closed system with insulation that makes claims for getting hot and has a winter jacket to keep it composting through the winter. In the authors experience Green Johanna gets hotter than the ambient temperature but has yet to creep out of the low twenties (in a warmer than average British summer). Rather than drying out, this cone-shaped plastic bin seems to retain moisture almost too well (easy enough to adjust for when you know).

NatureMill grinds the input material, supplies heat and turns it all for you AND it can be used indoors. Aside from the initial cost and the (minimal) running costs if you want to see compost made quickly this is a seriously good contender. If you have a cat and kitty litter to dispose of it may be the best thing since sliced tuna. The NatureMill requires sawdust or some carbon-rich material to keep it functioning. Buy a biodegradable litter and you cat could be doing more good to your garden than you!

India set to install panic buttons on buses to combat sexual assault

The Indian Government announced on Wednesday they will issue a notification to ensure all buses are fitted with panic buttons to prevent sex-related violence occurring on buses in India. The motion was introduced by Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari. Installation of the buttons is set to become mandatory on June 2.

Tests are under way on 20 buses running from Rajasthan to New Delhi. Buses are to have panic buttons, a GPS-enabled vehicle tracking device, and CCTV cameras. The new buttons are located at the front doors and when pressed, a police control room has the ability to view live footage recorded inside the bus.

Last month, the government announced that as of 2017, mobile phones can’t be sold in India without a panic button. With the press of a single key, the panic button alerts emergency services that assistance is required.

Since a fatal sexual assault three and a half years ago on a bus in New Delhi, accompanied by increased rates of sexual assault, the government has been pressured to help women avoid the dangers of sexual assault. The bus sexual assault three and a half years ago resulted in India-wide protests, and laws regarding sexual assault were overhauled.

According to India’s National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), in 2014 New Delhi reported 1,813 rapes, more than any other Indian city. In more than 80% of rapes across India, the victim knew the rapist. In data from 2013, the rapists in 539 cases were parents, in 2,315 cases other relatives.

In 2012 the NCRB said the country had 24,923 reported rapes. However, this number grew over the following year, with 2013 seeing 33,707 reported.

In 2013, NCRB said New Delhi saw 1,636 rapes reported, with an Indian average of 92 women per day. The New Delhi cases alone account for more than four per day.

England: Baby born with heart outside body operated on; surviving, three weeks after birth

On Tuesday, parents of baby Vanellope Hope Wilkins and representatives of Glenfield Hospital in Leicester, England reported to the press that Vanellope has survived three weeks after being born with her heart outside her chest, a rare birth defect known as ectopia cordis. She has been operated on three times, initially less than an hour after her birth on November 22, and will need further surgery; doctors believe she is the first baby in the United Kingdom to survive being born with the condition.

Vanellope’s parents, Naomi Findlay and Dean Wilkins, live in Bulwell, Nottinghamshire; Vanellope is Naomi’s third child. They learnt about the defect from a prenatal scan, but opted not to terminate the pregnancy. She was delivered prematurely by caesarian section by 50 people including four teams, placed in a sterile plastic bag and operated on 50 minutes later for the first of three times so far. Frances Bu’Lock, a consultant paediatric cardiologist at Glenfield, noted that unlike some cases of ectopia cordis, she does not have any heart defect or other displaced organs; at nine weeks, part of her stomach also protruded, but by sixteen weeks, only her heart was affected. Dr. Bu’Lock had originally told her parents she had only a “remote” chance of surviving.

Ectopia cordis is very rare and reportedly occurs in fewer than eight of every million babies born alive. It usually leads to a stillbirth when the pregnancy is not terminated, and with the likelihood of other associated congenital defects, plus the risk of infection, Vanellope’s survival is very unusual. Dr. Martin Ward-Platt, a member of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health, stated “we wouldn’t expect a case like this to happen in the UK more often than once every five to 10 years.”

Her mother said they called her Vanellope after a character in the Disney film Wreck-It Ralph because she was born with “a glitch”.
